Things to consider

When you’re looking at getting your loft insulated you may have a few concerns or questions, so here are the answers to a few of the thing that you may have to consider:

Can you insulate a loft if it’s a living space?
Yes, the insulation method just slightly changes. Instead of insulating the floor and keeping the heat out, you want to make sure that you insulate the walls. The most common method of doing this is by putting up insulated plasterboard.

My loft is too small for me to access
Unfortunately then that probably means you’ll have to call a professional in. It’s a different method of insulation where they blow granules of the insulation in using special equipment.

How does it work if I have a flat roof?
It may be worth waiting to do this when you have to have your roof replaced. If you have a flat roof due to condensation you will have to insulate it from the outside, adding a layer of insulation between the outer layer of the roofing and the timer roof surface.

My loft has damp issues
Generally it’s advised that you get a professional in if this is the case. The reason is, if you’re not careful then installing insulation can cause the damp problem to be amplified.

Cost of insulating your loft / roof

The general rule of thumb is that 270mm loft insulation rolls are valued at approximately £20, give and take depending on the brand and supplier & these will cover 8m squared.

To get an accurate price you would need to measure your loft & work out the value based on how much insulation you will require.
