Simba Mattress Review & Buying Guide

Hybrid mattresses are a better place to begin if you are looking for a new mattress. Conventional mattresses are made of either memory foam or springs. The hybrid mattresses combine the best materials available for optimum support, comfort, and longevity. You can easily fit the hybrid mattress in your car and move with them up your narrow stairways before you can roll them out to their actual full size.

Simba, a British brand that manufactures a wide range of bedding materials, is popular for its Simba mattress. The mattress is a classy one and is designed to offer you all the comfort you need. One of the special features of this mattress is it has different layers that facilitate cooling and airflow. Having a mattress that cools when it gets hot at night is unheard of from most other typical foam mattresses.

When looking for a mattress for your bed, there are many things people consider. One of them is whether the mattress you want to buy will be ideal for your body. Some mattresses suit heavier or lighter, shorter or taller, people better compared to others. A hybrid mattress such as Simba is suitable for all body types.

Simba mattress was launched in the year 2016, and since then, it continues to revolutionise the mattress industry in many ways. The mattress has over 100 000 five-stars reviews on Amazon, which indicates that users are delighted with the product.

Simba has taken a significant space online as it is one of the most popular mattress companies that do well in online selling. They developed their quality mattresses using over 10 million sleepers and over 180 million data points. The company created three high-quality mattresses using this data: SimbaHybrid, Simba Hybrid Luxe, and Simba Hybrid Pro. All three mattresses are incredible and offer a great and comfortable sleep for most customers.

Product overview

Simba mattress is manufactured by an award-winning sleep company known as Simba. The Simba mattress is a product of well-researched and thought ideas. The company collected a lot of data which helped them develop this incredible mattress. Using this data, Simba company came up with three categories of Simba mattress: Simba Hybrid, Simba Hybrid Luxe, and Simba Hybrid Pro. About 95 per cent of its users say they are satisfied with the mattress as it offers all they need. It integrates a supportive layer that has up to 2,500 conical pocket springs and body-contouring memory foam.

The mattress has five layers in total—the top layer, a zip-off, and a hypoallergenic cover that helps control the temperature. The next layer is the 2.5 cm layer with cooling Simbatex foam which minimises overheating while boosting your comfort at the same time. Under the Simbatex foam lies a 25 mm layer containing cone-shaped springs to support, distribute your body weight, and relieve pressure points while minimising motion transfer. The fourth layer is a 4.5 cm reflex support which is made up of foam. The fifth and final layer is a 16 cm, high-density foam base consisting of seven zoned support areas.

Simba mattress comes in six standard UK sizes, six US sizes, and five EU sizes. Transporting all the Simba mattress is very easy: a bed-in-a-box mattress. This means that your Simba mattress will be delivered vacuumed-packed up to your doorsteps in a very conveniently sized box for free.

Similar to most available options in the market, all Simba mattresses give you a trial of 200-nights. The trial helps you to decide whether the product is right for you or not by sleeping on the mattress for 200 nights. Some mattresses only give you a few minutes in the showroom to sleep on the mattress before taking it with you. In case you decide the Simba mattress is not good enough for you within 200 nights of trial, Simba company will come and collect their mattress for free and refund you all the money you had used to purchase the mattress.

Contrary to other brands, Simba offers hybrid mattresses as standard and not as an add-on. So, what exactly is a hybrid mattress? A hybrid mattress is an integration of pocket springs and memory foam and is designed to offer you the benefits of the two materials maximumly. Away from layers of memory foam and pocket springs, there are other additional layers for enhancing comfort.

In past years, the only mattress you could buy was pocket sprung. Today, the market is filled with mostly memory foam mattresses. Their design makes them sell well in the market compared to other mattresses as they tend to offer more and better comfort. Many memory foam mattresses in the market result from the cost of making them much lower today; hence, the final product is available at lower prices than before. Because of this, there are several companies manufacturing memory foam types of mattresses.

On a scale of 1-10, the average rating from the mattress owners is 6.5 in terms of its firmness. It is ideal for people with average weight: 130 – 230 pounds as well as those with above-average weight: weight that exceeds 230 pounds. Also, the mattress can effectively isolate motion to produce little noise,  making it suitable for couples. Depending on your needs, tastes, and preferences, the Simba Hybrid is available in 12 different sizes.

Product features

Simba offer mattresses that feature incredible quality foam with Simbatext comfort layers for enhanced comfort and innovative micro pocket springs that adjust seamlessly to support your spine well. The manufacturer used millions of data points from sleepers to come up with a high-quality hybrid mattress. The following will help you understand what the Simba mattress is made of.

Craftsmanship & materials

The main materials used to craft different categories of Simba mattresses are memory foam and pocket springs. The most popular types of Simba mattresses are Simba Hybrid Pro, Simba Hybrid Luxe and Simba Hybrid. We will show you the components of the three mattresses to help you determine which one is better for you.

What is inside the Simba Hybrid mattress

The mattress has five layers, which are:

Layer 1

This is the cover of the mattress, which is created with a hypoallergenic air-flow design. The synthetic blend makes up this layer which facilitates easy breathing of the mattress.

Layer 2

This layer is also referred to as the responsive layer. Open-cell foam forms the first comfort layer that tends to be more responsive compared to memory foam whilst dissolving pressure points pain away.

Layer 3

It is made up of 2 500 conical springs that adapt seamlessly to support your spine and sleeping position. In this sense, you will not disturb your sleeping partner as you adjust your sleeping positions.

Layer 4

The design of this layer uses foam which delivers a transitional supportive layer and focuses mostly on pressure release and edge support.

Layer 5

This is the foundational base which has foam consisting of zones that support your spine ergonomically. The zones also facilitate the movement of air, minimizing the heating effect.

What is inside Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress

the following six layers make up this mattress:

Layer 1

This is the top layer of this mattress, which is made of fabric with a hypoallergenic airflow that facilitates cooling. The fabric is super soft, and you can find it only in Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress.

Layer 2

It is created with natural British wool that offers enhanced air flow as well as temperature regulation for a night of comfortable night sleep in all seasons of the year.

Layer 3

This layer is an open-cell foam layer that adjusts to your body without disturbing your sleeping partner. It is a responsive layer that relieves pressure points while being cool at the same time.

Layer 4

The Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress fourth layer has a two springs zone that is patented. They work hand in hand to cradle the spine and offer you lasting support without any fear of disturbing your sleeping partner.

Layer 5

It consists of a high definition foam that adds some extra transitional, pressure relief, and supportive comfort.

Layer 6

The final layer of the Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress is a zoned foundational base that offers extra airflow. It supports your spine whilst releasing pressure on your shoulders and hips.

What is inside Simba Hybrid Luxe Mattress

It has seven layers for better comfort.

Layer 1

The first layer of Luxe is slightly different from the other. The Luxe cover layer features an open-cell casing for enhancing cooling.

Layer 2

It consists of a wool layer with additional bamboo, which improves airflow and temperature regulation to achieve a cool and soft touch throughout the sleeping period.

Layer 3

The open-cell foam layer adapts to your body’s positions without trapping sleepers. It also releases pressure while it stays cool and responsive.

 Layer 4

Like the Pro Mattress, Luxe has a two spring layer that is patented and work together to give you contouring support while still minimising transference of the motion.

Layer 5

This layer is a high definition of Simba-Pure that enhances edge support and offers some responsive transition that works together with above and below layers.

Layer 6

It consists of a layer of carbon steel spring that is 40mm high. The layer gives an additional adaptive firmness.

Layer 7

This is the last layer of the Simba Hybrid Luxe Mattress. It is a zoned section that forms a support base. It also has extra channels for airflow. This layer makes the mattress ideal for side sleepers because of the spring layer above it as sleepers feel some pressure relief which does not diminish from the centre back support.

Simba mattress design

The design of the Simba mattress is simple yet modern. Although other mattresses are combining different colours, Simba comes in lighter baby blue, which has a great energetic vibe.

Visually, this mattress is amongst the most presentable mattresses in the market, although this depends on your needs, taste and preferences. But in most cases, you will cover your mattress with bed sheets.

How comfortable is Simba mattress

Speeding your nights sleeping on the Simba mattress can be a very pleasant experience. If you try to compare Simba mattress with other mattresses available in the market, it may feel similar to others. However, other mattresses will tend to push you up to sleep on their surface, while you will sink a little into the Simba mattress. Simba Hybrid mattress is ideal for back and side sleepers. From the reviews, we picked one where the reviewer says upon purchasing Simba Hybrid mattress, he has had the best sleep in months.

Although Simba hybrid mattress does not feel the same way as a typical pocket-sprung mattress, it has thousands of pocket, which take a 25 mm thick layer of the entire mattress. This is smaller compared to a typical spring mattress. Notwithstanding, the Simba mattress has a little bouncing effect compared to a pure foam mattress. Sometimes foam mattress overheats during summer, but we found that Simba does not overheat that much.

What stands out in Simba mattress is the manufacturer’s emphasis on detail. The mattress comes in a box that is easy to transport and move up your narrow stairs. Inside the box, there is a tool for removing the plastic, making the setting up of the mattress easier. You can remove the mattress from the box by just pulling it all by yourself.

After removing the mattress from the box using the tool provided, the mattress rises and starts to take its shape once you lay it on your bed. The Simba Hybrid Mattress takes around 72 hours to expand completely. However, you can still sleep on it three hours past unpacking it. This makes it an excellent mattress if you want to sleep on it the same day you receive the mattress. During the first nights, you will notice a strong plasticky smell, but the good thing is the smell disappears over time. Also, airing the mattress will helps the smell fade away faster.

Simba Hybrid Mattress is more supportive compared to some mattresses available in the market. It offers a comfortable soft top layer. Without any doubt, the synthetic latex found in the Simba mattress makes it hotter than a conventional pocket-sprung mattress with some natural fillings. However, you can control the heating by using ideal bedding. But if you are the kind of person who gets the extra warm on a memory foam mattress, Simba Hybrid is not the best mattress for you.

Do Simba mattresses sag

Almost all hybrid or memory foam mattresses sag over time.  A memory foam mattress lasts for around five to ten years. The sides will be the first parts of the mattress to sag. However, almost all negative reviews on Simba Hybrid relate to other things rather than its sagging issues.

Are Simba mattresses suitable for back pain

All the Simba mattresses categories are very suitable for back pain. Their ergonomic design with pocket springs creates a perfect blend between deep spine support and pressure pain relief, which deliver a comfortable feel throughout the night. However, if you have back pain, a pocket spring mattress will give you better comfort compared to Simba mattresses.

During weekdays, Simba customers receive free shipping, and you need to be at home for the delivery signing. On the delivery day, Simba gives you a three-hour delivery window period which allows you to track the driver. When your mattress delivery is up next, the driver will notify you.

If you want to sex a specific time for delivery on a weekday, you will need to pay £20, while for weekend delivery, you will be required to pay £40. In case you want the delivery driver to carry away your previous mattress, you will need to request that service for a small fee.

There are some areas where Simba don’t offer free delivery services. In highland areas such as Islands, Northern Ireland and other remote areas, a customer will pay £90 for shipping.

Delivery policy

Here is the Simba delivery policy:

Simba coordinate its standard deliveries through the UPS, which is free for all its customers. Standard delivery services are offered from Monday to Friday. Upon placing an order, most customers receive their Simba mattress within one to three working days.

Besides offering standard delivery, Simba offers other options: express delivery and two-day premium delivery. Express delivery is free of charge, and Simba coordinates it through DLD local: provided between 8 am to 6 pm Monday to Saturday. Two-day premium delivery features in-home delivery and disposal of old mattress option upon request. It will cost you £20 with the exception of old mattress removal or £40, which includes old mattress disposal.

Express and standard deliveries are very flexible because you won’t be required to be at home to sign for the package the moment it is delivered.

Trial period and guarantee

Simba offers generously 200 nights trial time which is two times the length of a good number of mattresses sleep trials. They ask you to sleep on your Simba mattress for a period of at least 30 days before you consider returning it. Within 30 days, your body should have adjusted to a new surface. If not, you can decide to return the mattress.

If you have not slept on the mattress for at least 30 days, you will not get a refund. The trial begins on delivery night. In case you want to return the mattress, Simba refunds you all the money you used on the mattress and coordinates the pick up at your residence. The processing of refunds takes around three to five working days. You might have asked yourself what Simba does with the returned mattresses.  Simba may either donate the mattress to charity or recycle it. At no time Simba will repack the mattress.

Warranty

A 10-year warranty protects the Simba mattress. The warranty covers broken zips, cracks in the foam, and excessive sagging. If your mattress starts having such issues, you can contact the retailer from where you purchased your mattress or reach out to Simba directly if you bought your mattress online on the Simba platform. All this will be possible only when you notify Simba within 30 days.

Suppose you did not buy your mattress directly from Simba; you will be required to have proof of purchase when launching a claim. However, you may not need proof of purchase if you bought your mattress directly from Simba because they keep all your order details. After launching the claim, Simba or the retailer will walk with you throughout the whole process.

As long as your warranty is valid, Simba will cover the entire replacement cost for defects in your mattress. The warranty is wholly non-prorated.

Another thing that makes up the warranty is, the company asks you to rotate your mattress once every month in the first three months. How many times you rotate your mattress changes after three months: you are asked to rotate it once every three to six months. Rotating your mattress helps in minimising the rate at which your mattress wear and tear.

Your Simba mattress warranty will cover defects related to your mattress’s physical flaws, but it won’t cover wear and tear that takes place when rotating and moving your mattress.

Customer Service

Simba has a very active customer service team. You can chat with the team via email or webchat. The team is available from Monday to Friday, 9 am – 5 pm, and Saturday, 9 am – 1 pm. The team is helpful, and I can promise you you will have a friendly encounter with it.

If you purchased your mattress through Amazon or any other retailers and want to initiate a return, you can always reach out to them.

How do you set up your Simba mattress after arriving

The following process will guide you when setting up your new mattress:

  • Open the box carefully.
  • Get the mattress from the box and unroll it on your bed.
  • Cut the plastic carefully to break the vacuum seal.
  • An unpleasant smell will come out of the mattress but will disappear after some time.
  • Remove all its packaging and leave it to rise all by itself.
  • You can sleep on the mattress within three to six hours after unpacking.
  • It may take up to 72 hours to expand completely.
  • You can dispose of the box or use it for something else.

Price and competition

Considering the quality of the Simba Hybrid mattress, the prices provided are quite fair.  It competes favourably with its rivals, such as Emma, in the market. The price margins are very narrow, and quality will help you decide what mattress you will buy and what brand.

The good thing about the Simba brand is, they give its customers up to 100 nights trial period for their mattresses. Most mattress companies give their customers less than 100  nights of trial. This makes it more competitive as shoppers will believe that the manufacturer has confidence in the product. If a customer is not okay with the product, the company will come and collect it and process a refund. In addition, most mattress brands, including Simba, have regular discounts, which cut down full prices to manageable prices.

Where is it available

Simba mattress is readily available on Amazon UK and on the Simba website. There are other retailers such as John Lewis and brick-and-mortar furniture located in the UK.

Simba ship its hybrid mattress throughout the UK. If you live in the following countries, the Simba will ship your mattress to your doorsteps: Germany, France, Belgium, Ireland, and the Netherlands.

Which awards has the Simba Mattress won

In the last few years, Simba sleep has been nominated for many awards. As a result, it has claimed a good number of awards outshining its market competitors. The following are the wards that Simba Sleep has won:

  • Got approval in 2018 from the Good Housekeeping Institutes. They said that five layers of Simba Hybrid offer idyllic support. Also, they said concerning its cooling effect, it makes it ideal for the Summer heatwave season as the mattress is able to regulate temperature, which makes it conducive to sleep on during such times.
  • Also, in 2019, it won Product of the year from the Consumer Survey of Product Innovation in the mattress category.
  • It won the accolade of the Product of the Year Award in 2020 in the Hybrid Mattress Category. They commended the mattress, saying that it does not matter where you sleep on the mattress; Simba Hybrid Mattress will give you equivalent support from every corner.
  • It received a 10/10 from the Daily Mail UK. They praised it for its satisfyingly supportive and squishy features.

Product pros

  • Simba mattress is able to isolate motion. It reduces motion transfer; hence you won’t disturb your sleeping partner when changing your sleeping position or moving out of the bed.
  • The mattress design makes it adapt quickly to the changes in position. The micro-coils layer facilitates this in the mattress.
  • Simba Hybrid Mattress is perfect for keeping off the tension in areas that experience high pressure, such as the tummy, hips, and shoulders. If you wake up feeling sore on your shoulders, hips or spine,  know that the mattress you are sleeping on is not for you.
  • The materials used to craft are titanium alloy coils which are manufactured in Leeds. These materials are durable and help in ensuring the mattress serve you for long. A 10-year warranty is enough proof of the durability of the product.
  • Simba mattress is budget-friendly. The mattress is ideal for those who want to scale down the budget of buying a mattress and probably get the value for their money.
  • Simba does not overheat too much during hot seasons like in the Summer, like other foam memory mattresses.
  • Although a bit expensive, the original Simba Hybrid Mattress, Simba Hybrid Pro, is upgraded and provides more squish, cooling and responsive effect.
  • It is crafted with high-quality materials that provide excellent comfort and long service.
  • Simba mattress structure provides you with temperature firm edges and temperature regulation features.
  • Simba mattress can accommodate all types of bodies from petite to plus size. In addition, it works well in distributing weight.
  • The mattress will adapt to your favourite sleeping position without causing any kind of pressure or discomfort.
  • Simba mattress firmness is above average. This feature makes it suitable for back sleepers as the mattress can provide enough support, which ensures that your spine relaxes in a healthy position.
  • The mattress is good for people experiencing a lack of sleep as a result of back pain.
  • Simba mattress does not experience significant sinkage. It is able to retain its initial shape over the year. This is evidence that it is a quality mattress.
  • Upon delivery, the company gives you a 100 nights trial period to determine whether the mattress is for you or not. If you are not okay with the mattress, you can request a return.
  • The manufacturer gives you a 10-year warranty for the mattress upon purchasing. This makes the mattress more reliable. Also, it is evidence that the manufacturer has a lot of confidence in the mattress.
  • Simba mattress has great breathing aspects. The breathing capability of this mattress ensures it does not trap heat a lot of heat. In addition, micro coils and a breathable surface facilitate sufficient airflow minimising the amount of heat trapped in your mattress. Considering a regulated temperature is very important for quality sleep, Simba’s mattress design make sure you enjoy your sleep to the maximum.
  • The mattress is beneficial to your sex life due to its responsive and bouncy nature.

Product cons

  • After unboxing your Simba mattress, there is an unpleasant plastic scent. You will need to tolerate this smell for some time before it disappears.
  • If your previous mattress was an innerspring mattress, it might take you around 30 days to adapt to sleeping on the Simba mattress.
  • Sometimes, the mattress may not be able to isolate motions, especially when there is too much turning and tossing. Also,  if you have a sleeping partner who changes positions now and then, there will be a lot of interruptions throughout the night. Studies reveal that interruption throughout the night may lead to more stage one sleep and little stage three and four sleep. All these stages work hand in hand to restore all the body’s functions.
  • When buying a Simba mattress, don’t expect to experience a feeling of a spring mattress. The mattress is not very springy; although you will not sink into it quite much, it brings more foam mattress sensation than a pocket-sprung variety. The conical springs in your Simba mattress are only 20 mm deep, which justifies why it is not springy.
  • It has only one firmness option from which you can choose. On a scale of 1 – 10, the average rating of the mattress firmness is 6.5. As a buyer, there are many options you consider before buying a mattress, such as your sleeping positions and your weight; one firmness option will not be suitable for many buyers looking for a hybrid mattress.
  • Simba mattress is highly recommended for people with medium or heavy-weight as well as back, stomach and side sleepers. However, light-weight people will need to consider other softer options that will offer them a comfortable sleep.
  • Some sleepers complain that the mattress gets too soft quickly. Some say it forms a ridge down in the middle of the mattress, giving them back pain and bad sleep.

Our honest review

Simba Hybrid mattress is supportive, comfortable and doesn’t heat up at night. We highly recommend this mattress for side, back, and stomach sleepers. Also, people with medium or plus-size body types will enjoy sleeping on this mattress. Simba also is good for lightweight individuals, but there are better options for them.

Simba mattress reviews are proof that most users are satisfied sleeping on the mattress.  There are thousands of great reviews about this mattress which shows that you might love this mattress. If you are not a fan of sleeping on your front, then Simba is the mattress for you.

If you are looking for a bed-in-a-box type of mattress, we wholeheartedly recommend you a Simba Hybrid Mattress. The mattress comes in a box that is easy to transport and move up your narrow stairways. The box easily passes through your door without any complications. Inside the box, there’s a tool provided to help you remove the mattress from the box. After removing the mattress from its box, it starts taking its shape to fit well on your bed: it takes72 hours to attain its full shape, but you can still sleep on it after three hours upon unpacking. At first, there is a horrible plasticky smell which will disappear after some time.

Getting a great level of firmness in a mattress can be a very personal thing. However, the Simba Hybrid Mattress provides you with an excellent balance between support and comfort. The good thing is, the mattress does not lose these features after the initial break-in period or when it gets warm.

Simba Hybrid mattress costs more compared to some other mattresses such as Emma which has almost similar qualities. Sometimes you can even find a hybrid mattress that is more comfortable than Simba Hybrid at the same price.

Simba mattress gives an excellent balance of support and comfort right up to its edges. These properties make it suitable for side sleepers, back pain sufferers, bedrooms that are difficult to reach, and people who heat up at night.

Simba is made up of high-quality materials and innovative layers ideal for most body types and sleeping positions. It is also a great mattress for couples.

This mattress is more reliable because it includes a 100-night trial period and a 10-year solid warranty period. This a strong indication that the manufacturer makes high-quality products. In case of defects, you can immediately call your retailer or Simba. If the defects fall under the warranty conditions, you will get a replacement.

Simba has excellent free and quick delivery services. After placing your order, you will get your mattress within three to five business days. Also, delivery is very flexible as you can ask the seller to deliver the mattress at a specific time or at weekends: there is a fee for such services. Simba has an option where you can ask the delivery team to dispose of your old mattress for you.

Simba Hybrid has won several accolades; this indicates that it serves its purpose well by helping people have a comfortable sleep. This is a wake-up call for anyone looking for a high-quality mattress with a moderate feel.
